Chiropractic specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of mechanical disorders of the spine and joints. Chiropractic is a fast-growing independent healthcare profession; it is the third largest primary healthcare profession in the world behind medicine and dentistry.
As Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession you do not need to be referred by your doctor.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a package of care rather than any one specific treatment. Chiropractors are particularly skilled in spinal manipulation, a safe and highly effective form of treatment for spinal disorders. Manipulation involves the application of a fast, specific manual impulse to a restricted joint, usually in the spine. This improves mobility of the joints and relieves pain by restoring normal function. It has been shown in independent research trials to be highly beneficial for patients suffering with back pain and has been recommended in guidelines published by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Chiropractors are also trained in other soft tissue techniques such as deep tissue massage, stretching and specific exercise programmes. These techniques are used to relieve tight muscles.
Training for Chiropractors
Chiropractors are highly trained. They train for five years full time, graduating with a Master’s degree in Chiropractic. Andrew graduated from the world renowned Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth (www.aecc.ac.uk).
Chiropractors are also required to undertake continuing professional development in order to stay abreast of current advances in research and patient care.
Goole Chiropractic & Osteopathy Clinic is committed to lifelong training and Andrew attends local post-graduate meetings to share knowledge and improve his clinical care. Andrew also meets regularly with the team of Chiropractors from his other clinic to discuss challenging cases.
By law, Chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (www.gcc-uk.org), the statutory body which sets standards, protects patients and promotes the profession.
In addition Andrew is a member of the British Chiropractic Association (www.chiropractic-uk.co.uk), the longest established professional association in the UK.
